Screening & Diagnosis
If you are post-menopausal or over the age of 65 we recommend a bone density screening to assess fracture risks. Your doctor may order a bone density scan if you have a family history of weak bones or are taking medication that can cause weakening bones.
Other common factors that may lead to your doctor to ordering a DEXA scan include, family history of weak bones or if you are taking medication that can cause weakening bones.
Preparing for your DEXA (Bone Density)
You will need to complete a health history form at check-in, please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.
- Wear loose comfortable clothing, nothing with buttons, zippers, or snaps.
- Do not wear a bra with an underwire.
- Stop taking your calcium supplement 48 hours before your scan.
- Tell the technician if you had any back or hip surgery.
