Providers Specializing in Pulmonary Medicine
Grand River Medical Group currently has two board certified internal medicine physicians with a specialty in pulmonary and critical care.
Common procedures performed by pulmonary medicine specialists include:
- Bronchoscopy - placing a special instrument with a camera on one end into your lungs through either the nose or mouth. If an abnormality is detected, a sample can be taken. Bronchoscopy is normally performed as an outpatient procedure at one of the Dubuque hospitals.
- Pulmonary Function Tests - to help your doctor determine if your symptoms are due to a problem with your respiratory system.
- Spirometry - involves blowing your air into a special instrument that measures the flow, volume and content of the air you exhale. Spirometry can be performed at either the hospital or right here in our office.
- Oximetry - measures the oxygen level in your blood and involves using a probe that attaches to your ear or finger to detect the oxygen levels. Sometimes this test is performed on a continuous basis overnight or it may be done before and after you exercise.
